Merlo innovation driving farm efficiency

Merlo Australia empowers modern agriculture with versatile telehandlers that boost efficiency, cut costs, and deliver long-term value, helping farmers streamline workflows and adapt to industry demands.

For progressive Australian farmers, choosing the right machinery goes far beyond horsepower. It’s about efficiency, flexibility, and maximising return on investment — all while meeting the demands of modern farming. Merlo Australia understands this evolving landscape and has built its reputation on delivering machines that help producers do more with less, while staying competitive in an increasingly cost-sensitive environment.

At the forefront of Merlo’s lineup is the Multifarmer series — a hybrid that combines the functionality of a telehandler with the capabilities of a tractor. With high lifting capacity, a rear PTO, and a three-point linkage system, the Multifarmer runs a wide range of implements while handling heavy loads, all with one versatile machine. This dual-purpose design boosts efficiency and reduces the need for multiple machines, lowering both capital investment and ongoing maintenance costs.

Merlo telehandlers are also renowned for advanced safety and fuel-saving technologies. The patented Merlo Dynamic Load Control (M-CDC) system provides intelligent load management, giving operators confidence when working with varying materials and terrains. The Electronic Power Drive (EPD) optimises engine performance to cut fuel consumption without sacrificing power or productivity.

Forward-thinking producers like Hay Australia are already reaping the benefits. By integrating a Merlo into their operations, tasks such as lifting, loading, towing, and material handling are consolidated into a single high-performance machine. This streamlines workflows, saves time, and reduces reliance on labour — a major advantage in an industry grappling with workforce shortages.

Chris Wilson, National Sales Manager at Merlo Australia, highlights the growing importance of flexibility on today’s farms:

“Farmers are under pressure to do more with fewer resources — whether that’s people, time, or fuel. Versatile machinery that can perform multiple roles reliably and efficiently is one of the smartest investments a farmer can make.”

The broader trend in agriculture is clear: Innovation and versatility are reshaping the way farms operate. From unpredictable weather patterns and rising input costs to growing demand for sustainable practices, farmers are seeking solutions that build resilience and profitability.

Merlo is responding to these challenges with continuous innovation — from cab comfort and intuitive controls to market-leading safety systems and fuel efficiency. Every machine is built with the future in mind, helping producers stay ahead in a changing industry.

Merlo Australia is proud to support farmers with machinery that’s robust and smarter by design — reducing costs, saving time, and improving safety while unlocking tomorrow’s opportunities.

Customer Quotes on the Merlo Multifarmer

David Reinhardt, Carstairs, Alberta, Canada, replacing a 200-hp loader tractor and skid steer with the Merlo 40.9 Multifarmer:

“Once we got it here and put it through its paces, I don’t think I’d ever be without one now.”
“It replaced my loader tractor and skid steer… Anything you can do with a front-wheel assist tractor you can do with one of these, pretty much.”
Grainews

Kevin and Michael Guinan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland (100 hours in the Multifarmer 34.7 in just six weeks):

They’re “finding the Multifarmer a great addition to the farm, making tasks around the yard quicker and easier.”

“They are particularly enthused about the manoeuvrability… with the four-wheel steering enabling it to spin around the yard more quickly than the tractor and loader it is replacing.”
Agriland

Tony Ruane, Warborough Farm, Oxfordshire, UK:

“The Multifarmer stood out as the perfect solution—versatile, reliable, and efficient.”
“The ride quality is pretty good … you’ve got a great view all around the machine thanks to the low boom pivot.”

Trace minerals are required for optimal growth, reproduction, and immunity. Optimising trace mineral status relying solely on oral supplements across a herd may fail because of variation in individual intake and reduced absorption due to antagonism of other ration components and minerals. The use of injectable trace mineral supplements has been associated with positive reproductive outcomes including improved conception rate, increased odds of pregnancy and greater final in calf rate. A study conducted on 2,168 dairy cows, administered injectable trace minerals, four weeks prior to calving and again four weeks prior to the start of mating showed treated animals had a 3.3 per cent greater final in-calf rate, and a reduced time from start of mating to conception, compared to control animals 1 . The Importance of B12 Dr Carl Eden, Technical Services Veterinarian with Boehringer Ingelheim says “Vitamin B12 is sometimes referred to as a ‘super vitamin’ because it is only required in very small amounts but vital to many essential metabolic pathways. However, demand for B12 can vary considerably during the year and we see serum levels of B12 fall at critical times, such as the first few months after calving.” Vitamin B12 contains cobalt, so deficiency in cobalt can lead to deficiency in vitamin B12 because ruminants get most of their B12 as a byproduct of ruminal fermentation where the bacteria in their rumen assemble B12 from cobalt for use by the cow. Sub-optimal trace mineral and vitamin B12 status at calving, mating, and drying off has been shown to negatively impact growth, reproduction, and immunity. Using a trace mineral injectable containing vitamin B12 can improve trace mineral and vitamin B12 status at these critical times. Marks-Min with Vitamin B12 – The Evidence In the largest trace element study to date, Marks-Min Injectable Trace Mineral with Vitamin B12 demonstrated remarkable results when compared to a reference trace mineral injection. “Given the differences between Marks-Min and other products on the market, we wanted to generate a compelling data set to demonstrate how effective it was compared to the pioneer product. We entrusted this work to a third-party research company” says Dr Eden. “We chose farms that were at the top of their game from a reproductive perspective. We made sure that the farms had no evidence of trace element or vitamin B12 deficiencies or excess.” Across all outcomes of interest, Marks-Min demonstrated clear non-inferiority when compared to the reference product. Outcomes measured included submission, pregnancy and conception rates, and six week in-calf rate. Marks-Min demonstrated it is highly suited as an alternative treatment to the reference product.
