Safety toolkit launched for young farmers
Elizabeth Gracie

A new online toolkit launched by The NSW Department of Primary Industries Young Farmers Business Program will help users develop strong Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices on their farms and fisheries.
The Work Health and Safety toolkit will provide young agricultural workers the WHS knowledge and skills to apply these tools to their individual businesses.
Young Farer Business Program Team Leader, Alexandra Hicks thinks that the toolkit will provide a variety of informative resources that young producers can practically apply to their work.
“The resources provide a great starting point for young producers to begin to implement a WHS management system in their businesses”.
“The toolkit includes videos and factsheets, created specifically for young farmers and fishers” said Hicks.
Created in conjunction with WHS expert Rebecca Fing, from House Paddock Training & Consultancy, the Young Farmers Business Program hopes that the toolkit will help young farmers and fishers develop their individual businesses whilst managing onsite and offsite risk, meet compliance requirements and getting the best out of both their personal and professional lives.
According to the NSW Department of Industries, “young producers visiting the program’s website can also learn more about employee and contractor WHS inductions, emergency planning, safety training and competency as well as the key steps involved in risk management and roles and responsibilities under WHS legislation”.
Importantly, it will also link to pre-existing industry templates that have been developed by Agricultural Health Australia that users of the toolkit can download and use in their businesses.
